The Kvikkjokk Riddle (Secret)
Discover the secret of Kvikkjokk - Sweden's hidden gem that rivals world-famous destinations but remains authentically untouched. Why isn't this breathtaking wilderness marketed like other iconic places?
I still don’t get it. Can’t believe it.
My mind cannot compute it.
“My” system cannot process it.
It’s as if there is a riddle to be solved.
A Secret to be revealed.
Kvikkjokk!
That road to Kvikkjokk!! 🤷♂️😳
It’s as if you find yourself in a National Geographic documentary.
But in real life.
Rather than on TV.
To the 10th power or so.
The water. The mountains.
It doesn’t matter what the weather looks like: sunny or cloudy.
It doesn’t matter what time of year it is: ice or water.
The beauty is incomprehensible.
The vastness immeasurable.
It might even feel as if something this beautiful should not be allowed to even exist..?!
The beauty and space by themselves are hard enough to “compute”.
But what seems to be the biggest part that my system cannot grasp is this:
you hardly read about how unspeakably beautiful this all is.
No thunderous marketing at all — hardly any “modest” marketing, even.
No boasting whatsoever.
Not any of that.
At all.
Instead. Deafening silence almost…
As if this is the most natural or ordinary thing in the world.
Natural? Certainly.
Ordinary … ?! Come on!
We are living in a world that is on fire — and in utter chaos.
So this space and this peace feels very much what the world desperately needs right now. Absolutely the most precious thing in the world. Nothing ordinary about it at all.
Look, you could say I’m just a guy from Belgium who ”hasn’t seen anything”, who has been living in a densely populated urban area with nothing but concrete buildings — in gloomy weather all year round. In other words, he is not used to any type of natural beauty or vastness.
The truth is I’ve been living in a rural area in Belgium my entire childhood, to begin with. Have lived and worked in Florida later in life for almost a decade. Florida has natural areas that are beautiful. Have been traveling across the world, too — and thus been exposed to quite a bit of other beautiful places: Alaska, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, all across Europe, North Africa, South Africa, desert in UAE. Have driven on the Great Ocean Road in Australia, and on The Pacific Coast Highway in California. So I have been exposed to some of the most impressive natural hotspots on our planet.
To me, both Kvikkjokk and the road to Kvikkjokk are in that category — in terms of utter beauty and breath taking views.
The major difference that I see with those other magnificently beautiful places is that Kvikkjokk’s existence is almost kept a secret here in north Sweden? As opposed to heavily marketed..?! 🤷♂️
How can we start making sense of this?
Are people not seeing it?
Not appreciating it?
Do they just not know?
Should we start shouting from the roof tops how unspeakably beautiful this Kvikkjokk area is?! Should we at Holy Motors start marketing and perhaps even hyping it up — and thus revealing the secret?
Is that the solution of the riddle my mind is looking for..?! So that at least the marketing is stacking up to the beauty and the vastness of the area?!
At one point that was my spontaneous reaction indeed. It certainly is what you’d expect in the US and probably many other parts of the world. Americans perhaps know better than any one how to promote and market even the tiniest place into a historical landmark. And if nobody else is doing the marketing here in Kvikkjokk, perhaps we should do it ourselves?
But then it started dawning on me.
Heavy marketing is not the way to go here.
It’s not the answer to my Kvikkjokk riddle, either.
Its secret lies elsewhere.
Authenticity!
Bang!!
The word has dropped.
Is that what this is about?!
At a very. very. powerful level..?!
Is this how to understand the Kvikkjokk secret..?!
The combination of utter natural beauty with a rather modest or even subdued attitude about it?
Out of respect for the true nature of all of this?
Perhaps to protect and preserve it?
Not to let it be spoiled by the destructive impact of mass tourism?
This is the closest I have gotten to making sense of it.
And I’m all for it. All the way.
However, this doesn’t mean that I am making a promise to not recommend Kvikkjokk to people who can appreciate it — and respect it.
Because more and more people are waking up these days. And what they are looking for is essentially peace and space.
And although we all know that that peace and space can only be found within, Kvikkjokk and its natural peace and space can serve as one of the most powerful accessing points on our planet — to that inner peace.
So we do not want to hold back those people whom we know would greatly benefit from this area (and from whom the area would benefit, too). If you are reading this, you will know if this is for you. You will feel it. Your system will be telling you.
Such is the power that is at play here.
One more thing deserves mentioning.
Perhaps it helps coming full circle with my riddle.
I have found that authenticity is also the keyword that best describes Holy Motors — the place from which I have been experiencing Kvikkjokk thus far.
I do feel Holy Motors Camp is a place that can serve as an ideal base camp for other authentic souls. A place from which they can experience and enjoy all of their own magic — and perhaps start solving some of their own riddles. 😅🪄
